The Balkan Workshops series is an important part of an original project of the Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics (SEENET-MTP), initiated by Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics Niš in 2003.
The Workshop will be the main event of the SEENET-MTP Network (Southeastern European Network in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics) and it’s Office in Niš in 2013. Established in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia in 2003 (during the BW2003 Workshop) and recognizing the importance of bridging the gap between South Eastern and Western European scientific communities, as well as the necessity of using the Balkan region as a turntable between Europe and the Middle East countries, the SEENET MTP tried to be one of the voices claiming the importance of scientific education in the development of a collaborative atmosphere in this part of the world. The SEENET-MTP gathers quite a big number of institutions from almost all countries in South Eastern Europe. Until now, 20 institutions from 11 countries in the region joined the Network, as well as 13 partner Institutions from all over the world, and about 300 individual members, with an increasing trend. The SEENET-MTP Office Niš coordinates SEENET-MTP activities.
This workshop (BW2013) is resumption of the Balkan Workshops BW2003, BW2005 (Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia), BW2007 (Kladovo, Serbia), SSCP20009 (Belgrade/Niš) and BW2011 (Donji Milanovac, Serbia) as a part of the Balkan Summer Institute BSI2011.
The purpose of the Workshop is to offer a platform for discussion and consideration of three topics “Beyond Standard Model” and everyday practice:
- in Particle Physics,
- in Cosmology,
- in regional and interregional cooperation in Science and Education.
The first two days would be mainly devoted to the pure scientific problems as new trends in (Astro)Particle Physics and Cosmology. It will be an excellent opportunity to gather leading experts in Physics and gifted students from CEI countries, EU, USA and Eastern Europe, to discuss open problems and perspectives in the main topics of the Workshop.
The third day will be organized as a series of round tables with a few invited lecturers and moderators from CEI, UNESCO, European Physical Society (EPS), Balkan Physical Union (PBU) and other. Considering that developing of national science and education policies plays an essential role in the building of sustainable knowledge-based societies, the round tables discussion will be focused on actions promoting and strengthening Education and capacity-building in Science to strengthen the capacity of Eastern and South Eastern Europe, to contribute in identifying means and methods and to propose models and actions for further development of Interregional and Cross-Border Cooperation (ICBS).
The Scientific programme of this meeting consists of the following topics: Astroparticle and Particle Physics: Theory and (LHC) Phenomenology, Cosmology (Classical and Quantum, Inflation, Dark Matter and Dark Energy), Quantum Gravity & Extra Dimensions, Strings, Noncommutative and Nonarchimedean Quantum Models vs Planck Scale Physics.
